Record information is provided pursuant to:
DVS complies with all federal and state laws regarding the dissemination of motor vehicle and driver’s license data. DVS will only release restricted information to individuals, companies, organizations, or government agencies entitled by law to receive the information or when the subject of the data has authorized the release of information. Most of the information collected on driver's license and motor vehicle applications is not available to the general public.
Record Inquiry
Commercial Inquiry: Commercial users are required to sign a legal access agreement and if they misuse the information are are subject to criminal and civil penalties under United States code, title 18 (USC, title 18). DVS charges a fee for this data to recover the costs of production.
Individual Inquiry: Individuals are required to complete a Record Request form, indicating how they are entitled under USC, title 18, to receive record information or provide written authorization from the subject of the data. DVS will determine if the requestor is authorized to receive the information. DVS charges a fee for this information to recover the costs of producing the information. Government Access: Law enforcement and court agencies have access to the computer records through a criminal justice computer network. Some other government agencies also have access to the records to obtain or verify information needed to carry out their programs.
